Neurological Puppy Urgently Needs Donations for MRI

Santa Paula Animal Rescue Center is a strictly no kill, 501C3, open admission, municipal animal shelter in Ventura County, CA, where every animal arriving gets their second chance at life!

Six month-old, Ellie is a Blue Heeler puppy, found abandoned at a gas station at only 8 weeks-old and brought to SPARC. She had severe symptoms of "ataxia", (unable to stand or walk) and was brought to SPARC, where she had to be propped-up to drink and eat. She could stagger one or two wobbly steps and then would fall on her side and roll. The veterinarian found her to also have tremors. Ellie was referred to a veterinary neurologist, who initially suspected "Cerebellar Hypoplasia", but now it is possible she is also blind! It is imperative, in order to gather more information about her condition, that she have an MRI of her brain, so we must raise $3,500 for the scan and her follow-up care, by her appointment, next week, September 3, 2024.

Ellie was fortunate to have found an amazing medical foster home where she's been living and learning for the past few months. The foster has another dog with Cerebellar Hypoplasia, but it appears Ellie's condition is significantly worse and more debilitating than his, so it's important she get an MRI for doctors get a view of her brain.

Ellie would not have not made it this far at most municipal shelters, but if you believe in our truly no kill mission, won't you please donate whatever you can to allow Ellie this chance to have an MRI, please? As a 501c3, your donations to for Ellie, to SPARC, are tax deductible.

Although SPARC is a City Shelter, we receive only around 11% of our annual funding from the City. We spend around $1.5 million per year, caring for the nearly 1800 stray and abandoned animals entering our shelter, nearly all of which must be vaccinated and spayed/neutered and many of which require complex medical care .
